A long time ago, in a land far, far away…. < — I always wanted to write that! 🙂
Hi, my name is Traci, and I’m a chronic illness and pain sufferer. Now that you know I’m one of you, I have a confession to make – I’m not a doctor. I know, I know, my mother is just as shocked as you. While I have decades of experience in navigating my own health issues, that only makes me an expert on… ME! Just wanted to clear that up, so ya’ll aren’t trying to book office visits with me. 😛
As the photo indicates, the majority of my days are filled with my Toy Poodles snoozing on my lap and keeping me company (Payton – the black & white, and Piper – the cream). Whether in the living room recliner, reserved for my better days, or in my “cave“, for the bad days, my dogs are therapy for me. They make me laugh, force me to get up to let them outside, which makes me move, even when I don’t want to. They seem to really like my jokes and sense of humor. 😀
I know you’re wondering – what’s a “cave”?! It’s my bedroom, that has been tricked out with a recliner, room darkening curtains, temp, sound & smell controlled, a whirlpool tub equipped bathroom a few steps away, and all my chronic pain meds and tools close at hand. As a chronic illness and chronic pain sufferer – my “cave” is how I manage my pain and symptoms. I can’t control all the aspects of my illnesses & pain, but I can at least control my environment to help me cope better.
This site was born because of the things I have done over the years that help me get through each day. I know others also do the same. We’re just trying to make our lives easier, less painful and more manageable. These things are life-coping tips that I believe can help others with chronic illness and pain. These helpful, life-coping tips are Life HACKS!
What’s a “Life Hack”?
a strategy or technique adopted in order to manage one’s time and daily activities in a more efficient way.
More specifically, tips/info to help you navigate daily life with chronic illness.
Of course, you can’t share tips, and not also resonate with others going through the same thing as you – and thus, a support community was also born! Even if you just need support from people who get your struggles and won’t tell you “…but you don’t look sick! …You need to take/do X, it cured my neighbor’s hairdresser’s lawn boy’s cousin!”
Yeah, ain’t nobody got time for that! Here, you get life hacks AND understanding friends – can’t beat that!
Now that you know a little about me, about how this web site and support community got started…please do these three things for yourself (you deserve it):
